Travel Grants 2016

IPSA Travel Grants

The purpose of these funds is to facilitate travel to the world congress by people who live and work in developing economies, who would otherwise not be able to afford it. Recipients must be presenters (authors) or co-presenters (co-authors) at the event and be listed in the program.Travel grant funds will be given to recipients ONSITE and not in advance of the congress.

The IPSA travel grant includes:

  • A grant of $500 US to $1,000 US depending on the geographic region*
  • Complimentary Registration to the World Congress
  • One year IPSA Membership (2016)

The application period for the IPSA Travel Grants is from December 2, 2015 to January 29, 2016. All travel grant applications must be completed online using the IPSA account, without exceptions.

Travel grants applicants will be notified of results by February 29, 2016.

Criteria for application

  • must live and work (or study) in emerging/developing economies (list of eligible countries)
  • must have a role in the congress program (ie. chair, discussant, paper author)

Documents to provide with application

  • Proof of citizenship (identification page of passport)
  • Proof of work or study (ie. student card, staff card, letter of employment with valid dates) in emerging/developing economies (list of eligible countries)
  • A resume or CV
  • A letter of reference (from place of employment or educational institution, or from the chair or convenor of your panel).

How to apply

Application period was from December 2, 2015 to January 29, 2016.

Travel grants applicants will be notified of results by February 29, 2016.

Application Criteria and System of Evaluation


Definition: qualified applicants are those who (1) live and work (or study) in emerging/developing economies and (2) have have an accepted paper in the congress program.

Selected travel grant recipients will be able to use their travel grant funds to cover their registration fee and the IPSA membership fee.

Those meeting the deadline are those whose applications are received by January 29, 2016; the travel grants committee will adjudicate on the eligibility of borderline cases, such as those where part of the application was received before and part after this date. Late applicants may be considered for grants at a later stage, should additional funding become available.

Points system

Grants will be awarded in accordance with a points system, whose features are as follows. All candidates are allocated points on the basis of their applications, to a maximum of 18. The minimum number of points is 2, in the case of qualified applicants. Points allocated to the main criteria are as follows:

 The list of eligible countries is based on the UN's list of GDP per capita, in US dollars1
